Fighting for Breath : A Queer MMA Romance Kindle Edition
“Surrounded by the both of them, I feel safe for the first time in years, and like I can finally breathe.”
Cole Cassidy has spent the past three years raising his younger brother, and he’s faltering under the pressure of raising a pre-teen. As trouble in his brother's life escalates, the feelings of inadequacy reach an all time high. When a last-ditch effort to help his brother turns into the lifeline they both need, Cole can't do anything but hold on.
Childhood best friends to lovers, Lucas and Brooks Novak, have the life they've always wanted. Until Brooks's newest client walks into their gym and turns the couple's world upside down.
Cole’s brother thrives under Brooks's careful tutelage, and seeing him flourish is everything Cole has ever wanted. The more time the brothers spend with the couple, the harder Cole falls, despite his best intentions.
Lucas and Brooks never expected to fall for Cole, or for him and his brother to fit so seamlessly into their lives, but now they’re unwilling to let the brothers go. Cole fights his feelings at every turn, but the pair are unlike anyone he’s ever met, and he can’t deny their patient understanding is addictive…except they belong to each other, and he knows better than to hold on to false hope.
Trust has never come easy for any of them, but if they can learn to let go, they might just become the family the four of them were always meant to be.
Fighting for Breath is a standalone MMX romance novella in the multi-author series Fighting for Love. All the stories take place in the shared gym, Knockout MMA Training Facility. At Knockout Gym, happily ever afters are hard-won.
This hurt/comfort romance contains angst, a brother trying to do right by his sibling, and four unexpected people finding their forever family.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2024There were so many emotions packed in this story, they just reached out and grabbed you, not letting go, making you feel every emotion possible. It's not just the MCs that have you all emotional but also the secondary characters.
Cole and his little brother, Nathan, are still adjusting and dealing with their grief. Poor Cole is trying to be there for his brother but he doesn't believe he has the capabilities. Then he takes a chance on the Novaks. Boy does this chance pay off, not only for Nathan but also for Cole. Lucas and Brooks are exactly what Cole and Nathan needed to ease their pain and begin to heal. Cole develops a romantic relationship while Nathan develops a much needed support group. There is soul searching, true acceptance of self, strong emotions (anger, sadness, confusion, helplessness, and joy), beautiful relationships built, and true love in all forms (friendship, made family, and romantic).
Cole, Lucas, and Brook relationship slowly develops, allowing Cole all the time he needs to adjust and learn to trust. But Cole is not the only one needing healing. Brooks also had some internal demons to overcome. Their strengths and weaknesses just made them a better, stronger throuple. Loved that all 3 had their own unique personalities but fit together perfectly, balancing each other out. There was plenty of communication, no cheating, and each was represented equally. I do hope we get more books on the Novak family cause that family is full of interesting characters 😁
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2024I enjoyed this one more than I have all the others so far in this multi-author series. I love a good, sweet poly story and this one was well done. I adored Cole and his sibling Nat and how they came to be with Lucas and Brooks. I enjoyed the family dynamics of the Novak clan and really wish we could a story for all the siblings.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2024I love me a good poly trope and the MMA aspect of it all just really makes me swoon!
Cole is trying to do right by his little brother. Support him in every way he can. After losing their parents he is just trying to keep everything going.
Brooks is an Novak by heart and being in a relationship with one since they were 14 kinda just makes it that more real. They’re just living their best life until a cute man concerned comes storming into their life! Making them think good things are yet to come!
Lucas is a physical therapist and works some at the Knock Out Gym with his partner, who he has been with since he was in school. And now he is learning that sometimes some people come into your life and just never leave.
I loved the whole vibe of this little 4 person found family. You can expect lots of snark and lots of love! This book made so very happy!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2024📖 For being a novella this book packs a lot of uplifting story and information. I love the representations presented in this novella and that it is a good low angst poly book is also a bonus! Brooks and Lucas are a solid couple and are perfect with each other. Enter Cole and his 12 year old sibling, whom he has legal guardianship over, and we get an insta family by the end! There’s obviously more involved and the evolution of the relationship which happens fast but isn’t rushed, if that even makes sense but keep in mind it is a novella. I really enjoyed Brooks’ heart to heart with Nathan (Cole’s sibling) and how they were such a positive role model. All in all, it was a great and fast read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2024Wow - this is such a beautiful story!!
You will LOVE these characters. This one is about Cole which has brother named Nathan, their parents died 3 years ago. Nathan is not sure about his sexuality or gender right now. He has issues at school. They meet Lucas & Brooks and beautiful friendship is form. I highly recommend this one!!
One my favorite authors!!

This was good but the romance moved really, really fast. I think for me personally, it was just too fast to be believable. But still a great story.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2024This was a page turner! I loved these three guys. Well four with little Nathan. A brother that ends up being the father figure and two wonderful men that loves them both, this was perfect!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2024This book was easy to fall into, with characters I immediately cared about. I appreciated the love shown from the beginning between brothers Cole and Nathan (Nat), between longtime couple Lucas and Brooks, and between all the Novak family members. I adored seeing Cole become a partner to Lucas and Brooks as he and Nat also became part of their family. Lucas and Brooks were exactly who Cole (and Nat) needed.
I wish everyone could have the support of a family like the Novaks. The love and acceptance here was wonderful. I'd like to spend more time with these characters, seeing Nat grow and the triad flourish, and I would love to read stories featuring the other Novak siblings.

5.0 out of 5 stars All the feels!
Heart, healing and hope.
I was hooked from page one and these characters come alive as you read.
I loved Nat and Cole. While they're struggling and grieving these sibling bonds are strong. I felt for Nat has they discovered more about themselves and began to open up as they learnt under Brooks.
Both Brooks and Lucas are so strong and established, I enjoyed their story and their journey to finding Cole. I loved all these characters and there was just something about the writing that spoke to me. Thank you Abrianna for creating such diverse characters and allowing us to be part of their journey. I really hope we get to see more of the Novaks in future stories!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well written
This is a new author for me and they were able to pull me into the story from page one! The connection between these characters can be felt right off and doesn’t dwindle at all throughout the story. This is one of the best poly stories I have read, the balance between Brooks, Cole and Lucas never felt like someone got left out, or that the “third” was an extra …. Really enjoyed this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Emotional Journey of Family and Love
I absolutely devoured this book. 100% recommend. I have definitely found a new author to enjoy.
Cole Cassidy (25m) guardian to sibling Nat (Nathan) Cassidy (12m/x) after the death of their parents three years earlier.
Brooks Novak (32x) former MMA competitor, trainer at Knockout Gym, partner to Lucas for eighteen years.
Lucas Novak (32m) physical therapist and partner to Brooks for eighteen years.
This was a story with many facets and I really, really enjoyed it, it grabbed my attention from the get-go and held on. I loved the exploration of gender expression and identity, love, and family. This story really tugged on my heartstrings, there were so many emotions throughout.
I connected easily with all of the characters, even the secondary ones, comprising the Novak family, there are some familiar faces but this book absolutely stands alone. I loved that each character had a distinct voice, personality and relationship to one another. From the brotherly bond that existed between Cole and Nat and the deep soul connection between Brooks and Lucas to the new attraction between Cole, Brooks, and Lucas, to the bond of shared experience being forged between Nat, Brooks, and Daniel they were compelling to read.
As a novella I can only rate it four stars because the author really picked too many complex issues, characters, and side characters to explore within the constraints of a novella. As a result I found the relationship and character development somewhat lacking, the transition from strangers to lovers rather abrupt, it felt really fast and out of the blue, if I'm being honest. If this were fleshed out into a full-length novel and each aspect fully explored to its full extent this could easily be a five-star read for me.
I was given an ARC and voluntarily wrote an honest review.
Book 3/8, read third.
